Video message from Professor David Olusoga!
Posted on 07/11/2025
This term, SJL's Year 8 historians have been learning about the British Empire and historical interpretations of it. As part of their enquiry, students have been exploring contrasting historical interpretations, including those of Professor Niall Ferguson, author of Empire: How Britain Made the Modern World (2002), and Professor David Olusoga, author of Should the Empire Really Be a Source of Pride? (2016).
Recently, our Year 8 students had the exciting opportunity to pose a question directly to Professor Olusoga:
"Which country was most adversely affected by the British Empire?"
In a specially recorded video message sent to the school, Professor Olusoga responded to their question - and since he appeared as a contestant on Celebrity Traitors, it added an extra layer of excitement to the experience!
