Samuel Ryder Academy Appoints New Headteacher

Kyle BarrySamuel Ryder Academy, a dynamic and forward-thinking all-through school in St Albans, is thrilled to announce that Mr Kyle Barry has been appointed as its new Headteacher, taking up the role in September 2026. The school, renowned for its innovative approach to education, use of technology, and commitment to nurturing confident, compassionate children and young people, offers a unique 14-year journey from Reception to A-Level, enabling learners to thrive in a continuous, ambitious, and inspiring environment.

Mr Barry has been a dedicated member of the Samuel Ryder community for the past 12 years, most recently serving as Head of School. In that time, he has played a central role in supporting staff, inspiring children and young people, and fostering strong partnerships with families across both the primary and secondary phases of the school. He succeeds Mr Gauthier, the current Executive Headteacher, who will become Chief Executive Officer of the Scholars’ Education Trust.

Together, we will continue to shape a school that is ambitious, innovative, and world-class in the way it educates and empowers children and young people."

A spokesperson for Samuel Ryder Academy said Mr Barry’s appointment followed a rigorous and highly competitive recruitment process, reflecting the school’s ambition to secure a leader with the vision, experience, and dedication to guide its next phase of growth and development.

Chair of Governors, Alison Watkins, added: "We are delighted to welcome Mr Barry as Headteacher. He has an exceptional understanding of the school, its community, and the opportunities that an all-through education provides. His leadership, vision, and commitment make him the perfect choice to guide Samuel Ryder Academy into an exciting new phase. We also extend our heartfelt thanks to Mr Gauthier for his outstanding leadership and transformative impact across the whole school over many years."

Mr Gauthier said: "It has been an immense privilege to serve Samuel Ryder Academy. I leave confident that the school will continue to flourish under Mr Barry’s leadership, and I look forward to supporting him in my role as CEO of Scholars’ Education Trust."

Mr Barry will work closely with Mr Gauthier and the senior leadership team over the coming months to ensure a smooth transition ahead of officially assuming the Headteacher role in September.
