On Wednesday, Samuel Ryder Academy had the absolute honour of welcoming the outstanding British actor and author Paterson Joseph to our school. Mr Joseph captivated both students and staff with powerful storytelling from his latest book, ‘TEN: Children Who Changed The World’, a moving collection of ten real-life stories about Black historical figures, who despite growing up in a world where slavery was still legal, rose to make history through courage, rebellion, and resilience.

"These ten inspiring children grew up in a time when people who looked like them weren’t expected to become important. But they did! Each one changed the world, and it all started when they were just ten years old..."

We’re especially proud to have been Mr Joseph’s very first school visit for his inspiring new book. His passion, presence, and storytelling left a lasting impact and reminded us of all the power of history and identity.
