The Queen's Platinum Jubilee Quiz

Posted on 27/05/2022

The Robert Barclay Academy quiz was devised to celebrate the Platinum Jubilee during half term. There were 24 questions, 3 for each decade that the Queen has reigned from the 1950s to 2020s. The questions were mostly to do with significant events in British history, such as:

1971 What happened to British money? (decimalisation)

2021 Name the man who died aged 100 years-old, having raised £32 million to help the NHS? (Captain/Sir Tom Moore)

Some of the questions related to important world events such as:

1994 Who became the first black president of South Africa after Apartheid? (Nelson Mandela)

And there was one literary question in each decade. For example:

1984 Whose novel, written in 1948, was about 1984? (George Orwell)

Rba quiz

The quiz was sent out to all the staff and students and I received around 100 responses. Some were completed by individual students and some were done as a whole class with their teachers/tutors.

It was meant to be a fun activity, as well as a test of their knowledge of recent British history. One year 7 girl said she had sat down with her grandmother and discussed all the answers.

When the competition closed all those students who had put down all the correct answers were entered into a draw and one winner was chosen to receive the Jubilee Goody Bag, containing a variety of small prizes and treats.

The winner was a year 7 student Ben Reizberg.
