Inspiring Readership

Posted on 27/02/2023

The staff conference is always one of the most exciting days on the school calendar. From the excitement and anticipation of our keynote speaker, to the vast and eclectic range of workshops on offer, it always promises to be a day of inspiration for all. We were thrilled for the first time to be combining SRA, Priory Academy the SET Central Services team. An opportunity to take time out to share, collaborate and further develop the wonderful collegial nature of our Trust body.

We were delighted to welcome Richard Gerver, our keynote speaker, who provided some insightful and thought-provoking ideas on developing readers, and the love of reading, in our schools. In his international bestsellers, Simple Thinking and Change: Learn to Love IT to Lead IT, Richard offers a ground – breaking look into how the world is dealing with the challenging of embracing and leading change.

“At the heart of curiosity is reading.”

“Be curious, ask questions, challenge!”

Richard Gerver

Teaching and Learning must remain at the heart of any school and the quality of teaching and learning is the central feature of transformative education. Books, reading, literature - unyielding foundations of lives well spent. Wellsprings of inspiration and enlightenment; birthplaces of empathy, and companions of relaxation. Books remain a constant and critical component of our lives. Reading is absolutely essential and serves as the foundation of all learning. Reading leads to many answers that have arisen in our minds. It leads to many questions too, making us more inquisitive to know new things.

"Reading is an exercise in empathy; an exercise in walking in someone else's shoes for a while."

Malorie Blackman
